I was heartbroken to learn today (July 13, 2025) of the passing of David Cousins from Strawbs, one of my all-time musical heroes.
Although he had been ill for some time, the news still comes as a shock. I vividly remember the first time I heard “The Life Auction” from the Ghosts album—it was stunning and truly blew me away.
Dave continued to create remarkable music, with his band’s latest album, The Magic of It All, released just a couple of years ago.
Not only was he able to conjure lyrics of rare depth and insight, he also possessed a truly remarkable singing voice – you either loved it or you hated it, I guess. I loved it – truly a distinctive one of a kind artist.
Thank you, Dave. You will never be forgotten—one of the UK’s finest musicians and songwriters.
