Hi there and welcome to the Elegant Simplicity Newsletter

Been a while - apologies for that - but I have made an investment in new servers and new websites and what not - more on that later. In addition, I’ve been working on something completely different!

Over Xmas last year, in the space of about 7 days, I managed to write and record an entire album of original music. Now, while the music has elements of my ‘day job’, it is so far removed from it that I felt that releasing it under the Elegant Simplicity banner would be a disservice to everyone. In view of that, I have created a new 'side project'.

The project is called Afraid to Wake (yes, an oblique reference to an old song) and is subtitled music for dreamers and escapologists .

Essentially, the music is electronic, ambient, acoustic, mellow and psychedelic in feel. Mostly very short compositions and lots of spur of the moment improvisations. I think it is rather spiffing and I very much enjoyed the creative release.

Other News

Apart from the side project, I have been busy with the new full band album coming later this year. I keep changing the title, but will decide on the most appropriate one soon.

In addition, I have relocated all our web servers to the UK. Bit more costly to run, of course - it is the UK, after all! - but I feel happier about it if I ever require support or anything.

I have also launched, on the quiet, two new websites. One is for Afraid to Wake and the other, finally, is for Proximity Records. Still a bit of work to do on both of them but they are fully functioning and look rather cool.

The debut album from side project Afraid to Wake - A Haunting at Sea - will be released in July, 2024.

Two singles have been released so far, with another one coming out on Friday 22nd March.

Called Adrift II, it is the, er, second part of the four part Adrift cycle.
